Faced with the health emergency situation generated by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Princess of Asturias Foundation Board of Trustees has been in regular communication with the various health authorities during these months and has exhaustively followed the evolution of the virus in order to adopt all necessary measures at its disposal.
Thus, in keeping with the criteria of responsibility and prudence, the Foundation has been working since the end of February on an ever-evolving contingency plan aimed at minimizing the risk of contagion and the spread of the virus among the people who make up the institution’s team and of those who, in one way or another, may come into contact with the Foundation via the activities it carried out.
It has likewise been regularly assessing the potential impact of the pandemic on the Foundation’s main activity –the granting and presentation of the Princess of Asturias Awards– in order to work on alternative formats that would allow it to fulfil the institution’s mission, as has been the case until now.
The Board of Trustees considers that these Awards –which constitute a symbol of recognition of the finest human values– contribute to enriching society through the work of the Laureates, while offering encouragement and role models at a time when they are more necessary than ever.
As regards the presentation of the Princess of Asturias Awards, scheduled for 16th October, and the cultural, scientific, humanistic and sports dissemination activities that are usually held around this event, the Board of Trustees has agreed to the following measures, circumstances permitting:
