The awards will be bestowed this year for the 40th time in their history. Twenty-eight candidatures, encompassing fifteen different nationalities, have been nominated for this award.
As an exceptional measure, the Jury meeting will be held via video conference due to the health emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Jury’s acting secretary will be appointed by the Foundation, as established in the Regulations for the Awards. Furthermore, its chairperson will be the same as in the previous edition so as to facilitate the holding of the meeting, as approved by the institution’s Board of Trustees.
As stated in the Statutes of the Foundation, the Princess of Asturias Awards are aimed at rewarding “the scientific, technical, cultural, social and humanitarian work carried out at an international level by individuals, institutions or groups of individuals or institutions”. In keeping with these principles, the Princess of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities shall be aimed at recognizing “the work of fostering and advancing the sciences and disciplines considered humanistic activities or any activity related to social communication in any of its forms”.
The Award comprises a Joan Miró sculpture representing and symbolizing the accolade, a diploma, an insignia and a cash prize of €50,000.
