Geoffrey Hinton, joint 2022 Princess of Asturias laureate for Technical and Scientific Research, has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics

Scientist Geoffrey Hinton has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics today,after his career was jointly distinguished, along with those of Yann LeCun, Yoshua Bengio and Demis Hassabis, with the Princess of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research on 15th June 2022.
As stated in their Minutes, the Princess of Asturias Awards Jury decided to grant them the Award for “for their contributions to the advancement of Artificial Intelligence and its full integration in society. Their contributions to the development of ‘deep learning’ have led to major advances in techniques as diverse as speech recognition, natural language processing, object perception,machine translation, strategy optimization, the analysis of protein structure,medical diagnosis and many others. Its current and future impact on the progress of society may be described as extraordinary.”
