Princess of Asturias Awards

Marjane Satrapi, Joan Manuel Serrat, Ana Blandiana and Michael Ignatieff are to give speeches at the 2024 Princess of Asturias Awards ceremony

The ceremony will be held on Friday 25th October at the Campoamor Theatre in Oviedo

Marjane Satrapi, Joan Manuel Serrat, Ana Blandiana and Michael Ignatieff are to give speeches at the 2024 Princess of Asturias Awards ceremony

Cartoonist, film director and painter Marjane Satrapi, Princess of Asturias Laureate for Communication and Humanities; composer and singer Joan Manuel Serrat, Princess of Asturias Laureate for the Arts; writer Ana Blandiana, Princess of Asturias Laureate for Literature; and academic and essayist Michael Ignatieff, Princess of Asturias Laureate for Social Sciences, will be giving speeches at the forty-fourth Awards Ceremony.

To be held on 25th October at the Campoamor Theatre in Oviedo, the Princess of Asturias Awards Ceremony will be presided over by Their Majesties The King and Queen of Spain, with the presence of Their Royal Highnesses The Princess of Asturias and Infanta Sofía of Spain.

Simultaneous translation will be available throughout the entire theatre during the ceremony in four languages: English, French, Romanian and Spanish. The ceremony will be accessible to persons with hearing impairment by means of sign language interpretation at the Campoamor Theatre itself, as well as via the Foundation website. The theatre will also be provided with a hearing induction loop system.

LAUREATES

Joan Manuel Serrat, Princess of Asturias Laureate for the Arts; Marjane Satrapi, Princess of Asturias Laureate for Communication and Humanities; Carolina Marín, Princess of Asturias Laureate for Sports; Michael Ignatieff, Princess of Asturias Laureate for Social Sciences; Ana Blandiana, Princess of Asturias Laureate for Literature; and Daniel J. Drucker, Jeffrey M. Friedman, Jens Juul Holst and Svetlana Mojsov, joint Princess of Asturias Laureates for Technical and Scientific Research, have already confirmed their attendance at the ceremony. Joel F. Habener, joint Princess of Asturias Laureate for Technical and Scientific Research, will not be attending the Awards Ceremony.

Magnum Photos, Princess of Asturias Award for Concord, will be represented at the ceremony by its current president, Cristina de Middel, accompanied by photographers and former presidents of the agency Thomas Dworzak (2017-2020), Olivia Arthur (2020-2022) and Alex Majoli (2011-2013).

On behalf of the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI), Princess of Asturias Award for International Cooperation, the ceremony will be attended by its Secretary General, Mariano Jabonero Blanco; Alexander Chaverri Carvajal (Costa Rica), first scholarship holder of the Paulo Freire academic mobility programme to obtain a PhD; María Isabel Pires Gomes Guerra (Portugal), head of the Bilingual and Intercultural Border Schools project; and Martín Lorenzo Demilio (Argentina), head of the OEI in Colombia.
