Nicolás Castellanos, Prince of Asturias Laureate for Concord, has died

Nicolás Castellanos, Prince of Asturias Laureate for Concord, has died

Nicolás Castellanos, 1998 Prince of Asturias Laureate for Concord, has died.

The Jury decided to bestow the Award on Nicolás Castellanos, together with Vicente Ferrer, Joaquín Sanz Gadea and Muhammad Yunus, for “their unselfish and tireless efforts and exemplary contribution, in different geographical areas and spheres of activity, to the advancement and improvement of people´s living conditions, thereby leading to an increased understanding among human beings”.

The Jury was chaired by Sergio Marqués and made up of Gabino de Lorenzo Ferrera, José Ramón Álvarez Rendueles, Adolfo Barthe Aza, José Celma Prieto, Ramón Colao Caicoya, José Cosmen Adelaida, Juan Manuel Desvalls, José Ramón Fernández Cuevas, Pedro Ferreras, Juan de Herrera, Guillermo Luca de Tena, Elías Masaveu, Matías Rodríguez Inciarte, Luis Manuel Tejuca, Santiago de Ybarra y Churruca and Pedro de Silva Cienfuegos-Jovellanos (as acting secretary).
The Awards Ceremony, which took place on 23rd  October, was presided over by HM King Felipe VI, then Prince of Asturias. Besides the address by His Majesty, the speeches at the ceremony were given by Francisco Ayala, Jacques Santer, Emma Bonino and José Ramón Álvarez Rendueles, then President of the Princess of Asturias Foundation.
