Ordinary meeting of the Princess of Asturias Foundation Board of Trustees

The Princess of Asturias Foundation Board of Trustees held its ordinary meeting corresponding to the second half of the year at the Reconquista Hotel in Oviedo today, where it approved the budget and action plan for 2025 and was informed of the activities undertaken this past year and of the institution’s financial situation and assets.

President of the Foundation Ana I. Fernández and director Teresa Sanjurjo presented a report detailing the activity carried out by the institution throughout the year, with special attention to the Princess of Asturias Awards Ceremony and the cultural events leading up to it, as well as the impact that all this had in the media.

The report includes information on participation at the 102 cultural events organized to mark last October’s Awards Ceremony, which were attended by more than 42 900 people, in addition to the 12 766 participations by pupils from the 159 schools in the Principality of Asturias that participated in the “Taking the Floor” cultural programme.

The economic evaluation of the news generated by the Foundation during October in the traditional Spanish media –not including digital media– amounted to more than twenty-eight million euros (28 506 785 euros), according to data provided by media monitoring consultants Onclusive.

Budget 2025

Following the presentation of the figures for the year 2024, the Board of Trustees unanimously approved the action plan and budget for 2025, amounting to 7.3 million euros, a figure that once again reflects the institution’s budgetary independence, with 89% of its income coming from the private sector and 11% from the public sector.

The Board of Trustees also agreed to the appointment as Emeritus Trustee of José Antonio Fernández Rivero on reaching the age limit of 75 established in the Foundation’s Statutes for members of its governing body. On behalf of the Board, the Foundation’s president expressed its gratitude “for his loyalty, brilliant ideas and valuable suggestions at meetings on the Foundation’s evolution and its Awards.”
