The Princess of Asturias Foundation Board of Trustees held its annual meeting today at the Reconquista Hotel in Oviedo to approve the accounts, audit report and management report corresponding to the financial year 2022.

In addition to hearing reports from the institution’s president, Ana I. Fernández, and director, Teresa Sanjurjo, the members of the Board of Trustees were presented with the 2020 Annual Report. The Trustees was also informed as to the financial situation and assets of the Foundation, which ended the year with positive net income and a level of expenditure (5.6 million euros) slightly higher than that of the previous year. The detailed report will be published on the Foundation’s website on 22nd June.

The members of the Board of Trustees approved the incorporation of Ence-Energía y Celulosa and Ayesa, a global provider of technology and engineering services, to the Princess of Asturias Board of Trustees.

The Board likewise approved the appointment as Emeritus Trustee of the institution’s former president, Matías Rodríguez Inciarte, upon reaching the maximum age of 75 established by the Foundation’s Statutes to sit on its governing body. The Board expressed its gratitude for his dedication and “exemplary work, rectitude and sense of responsibility" since he joined this governing body in 1995 and “his outstanding work as president of the Foundation between the years 2008 and 2018”.

The agenda also included the approval of the Regulations governing the 2024 Princess of Asturias Awards and Exemplary Town of Asturias Award.

2022 Annual Report

Among the details and information regarding the activities undertaken throughout 2022, the most significant correspond to the granting and presentation of the Princess of Asturias Awards and the arrangements for the corresponding cultural week surrounding the Awards Ceremony. Last year’s Awards Week comprised 67 activities, all open to the public and free of charge, which were attended by 23 555 people. Furthermore, the cultural programme for schools in the Principality of Asturias received 5773 participations by pupils for 103 different schools.
