Porrúa is to host the opening of “Awards Week” with the screening of “Mamma mia!” In tribute to Meryl Streep, 2023 Princess of Asturias Laureate for the Arts

The Princess of Asturias Foundation will open the “Awards Week” events in Porrúa (Llanes) on 10th October with the screening of the film Mamma Mía! starring Meryl Streep, 2023 Princess of Asturias Laureate for the Arts. The screening will take place in the Llacín Cultural Centre Hall at 8:00pm.

Previously, there will be a musical performance by a group based on Donna & the Dynamos at the village’s skittle alley in tribute to the character played by the American actress in the film where she leads a band of women inspired by the group ABBA. Furthermore, there will be props and costumes available for taking photographs, as well as a light-painting area (a photographic technique in which lines, objects or scenes can be drawn on a snapshot through the use of lights).

In addition to the Foundation’s commitment to the rural world, reflected in the granting of the Exemplary Town of Asturias Award and the Annual Meeting of Exemplary Towns, the choice of Porrúa is motivated by the forthcoming coming of age of Her Royal Highness The Princess of Asturias, born in 2005, the year in which this village in to the Borough of Llanes received the aforementioned award.

Admission will be free until all seats are taken.

Awards Week

This activity forms part of the cultural programme put together by the Foundation that includes the participation of the Princess of Asturias Laureates in a variety of activities during the days leading up to the Awards Ceremony at the Campoamor Theatre. Since 1996, the Foundation has scheduled different activities in diverse locations in Asturias aimed at making the Laureates and their contributions to the world of science, culture or any other field in which they work better known to society at large.

Admission to all “Awards Week” events is free. The Foundation will announce the complete programme of activities in the coming days, as well as how to register to attend the different events.
