Screening of the documentary "Carmen and María. Two paths, but one gaze" at the Santander International Festival

The documentary Carmen and María. Two paths, but one gaze, produced by the Princess of Asturias Foundation and inspired by the figures of flamenco singer Carmen Linares and flamenco dancer and choreographer María Pagés, will participate in the 73rd edition of the Santander International Festival, following its premiere last March at the Malaga Film Festival. The screening will take place at 7:00pm on 29th August at Santander’s Palacio de Festivales auditorium.

Lasting forty minutes, this audiovisual piece reflects the process of artistic creation behind their shows and includes their reflections on their profession and lives, as well as their vision of flamenco art.

To mark the conferral on both artists of the 2022 Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts, in the summer of 2022 –twenty-five years after they had last worked together– flamenco singer Carmen Linares and flamenco dancer María Pagés embarked on a creative process that was to subsequently give rise to this documentary, Carmen and María. Two paths, but one gaze. This intimate flamenco work, conceived to pay tribute through singing and dance to some of the most representative voices of Spanish poetry, was premiered at the Príncipe Felipe Auditorium in Oviedo on the eve of the Awards Ceremony under the presidency of Their Majesties The King and Queen of Spain and with the presence of Their Royal Highnesses The Princess of Asturias and Infanta Sofía.

The performance served as the starting point for the documentary, filmed during the rehearsals prior to the premiere of the show and which also reflects the experiences of the Laureates in the cultural and official events organized to mark the Princess of Asturias Awards. This audiovisual piece is the first documentary to be produced by the Princess of Asturias Foundation, which seeks to disseminate the work of its Laureates via different formats.
