Juan Velarde Fuertes Prince of Asturias Award for Social Sciences 1992
The Jury for the 1992 Prince of Asturias Award for Social Sciences, comprising Íñigo Cavero, Óscar Fanjul, Ángel Fernández Noriega, Enrique Fuentes Quintana, Jaime García Añoveros, Miguel Herrero y Rodríguez de Miñón, Carmen Iglesias, Juan Luis Iglesias Prada, Francisco Luzón, Víctor Pérez Díaz, and José Ángel Sánchez Asiaín, gathered in Oviedo under the presidency of Manuel Fraga Iribarne, and with José López- Muñiz y González-Madroño acting as secretary, have unanimously agreed to grant the 1992 Prince of Asturias Award for Social Sciences to Juan Velarde Fuertes.
In granting the Prince of Asturias Award for Social Sciences to Juan Velarde Fuertes, the Jury wishes to acknowledge the long, fruitful career of an economist whose exemplary and generous moral and intellectual influence has spanned several generations of economists; whose research work has patiently and constantly covered the many disciplines that make up the study of the economic structure of Spain and the history of Spanish economic policy and thinking; and whose professional dedication, combined with a real desire to find solutions to our contemporary economic problems, are demonstrated by his active involvement in the fields of economic reporting and consultancy, and his continued responsibility in the public service in our economic administration.
