The Jury for the 1994 Prince of Asturias Award for Concord, comprising Eduardo Abellán, Plácido Arango Arias, Adolfo Barthe Aza, Claudio Boada, José Celma Prieto, José Ramón Fernández Cuevas, José Ferrer Sala, José Manuel García Hermoso, Santiago Gascón, Manuel Gómez de Pablos, Martín González del Valle, Baron of Grado, Juan de Herrera, Marquis of Viesca de la Sierra, Gabino de Lorenzo, Rafael Martínez Cortiña, Manuel de Prado y Colón de Carvajal, Juan Luis Rodríguez Vigil, Santiago Rubio Sañudo, José Antonio de Rumeu de Delás, Román Suárez Blanco, Jaime Terceiro Lomba, and Juan Carlos Usandizaga, gathered in Oviedo under the presidency of Antonio Trevín Lombán and with Pedro de Silva Cienfuegos-Jovellanos acting as secretary.
Bearing in mind that peace and harmony are the result of the integration of people into a just social order in which they may realise their aspirations as human beings, and that they fail disastrously when what occurs is the marginalisation and family breakdown which is suffered by many children, with whom society´s hopes should lie, over large parts of the world.
Considering the work which they carry out to alleviate such situations, nearly always under extremely difficult circumstances, the Jury, unanimously, agrees to grant the 1994 Prince of Asturias Award for Concord jointly to the organisations Mensajeros de la Paz (Messengers of Peace - Spain), Movimiento Nacional de Meninos e Meninas de Rua (National Movement of Street Children - Brazil) and Save the Children (UK).
