Brazil´s Movimiento Nacional de Meninos e Meninas da Rua, is the most important Brazilian association of this kind and the one which enjoys greatest prestige. It was created in 1985 by a group of educators, through a meeting promoted by UNICEF. Co-ordinated by the journalist Mario Volpi, it has more than 3,000 educators, working in twenty Brazilian states. This movement bases its work on detecting the children, forming them into teams and carrying out teaching activities which will help them to make a future for themselves and to free themselves from the world of violence and persecution which they often suffer. The Movement works habitually with Amnesty International and other organisations which focus on the struggle from human rights and for the welfare of children.
Mensajeros de la Paz was founded in Spain in 1962 by Father Angel García, with the aim of giving some dignity to marginalised minors. A member of the International Child Protection Agency, Mensajeros de la Paz´s main activity is to shelter youngsters who, due to serious family problems or other kinds of problem, live away from home, in the different functional homes which the association has. In the Functional Homes the activity carried on is as close as possible to that of a natural family, and all the homes make use of the communities means to integrate the sheltered youngsters.
Save the Children is the UK's leading international children's charity to create a better future for children. In a world where children are denied basic human rights, Save the Children champion the right of all children to childhood. They put the reality of children's lives at the heart of everything they do.
Save the Children works in the UK and across the world. Emergency relief runs alongside long-term development and prevention work to help children, their families and communities to be self-sufficient. Learning from the reality of children's lives they campaign for solutions to the problems children face. Save the Children team gains expertise through its projects round the world and use that knowledge to educate and advise others.
All their work is underpinned by their commitment to making a reality or the rights of children, first spelt out by the founders and now enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
