The Jury for the 1994 Prince of Asturias Award for International Co-operation, comprising Miguel Ángel Aguilar, Guido Brunner, Leopoldo Calvo Sotelo, Antonio Garrigues Walker, María Emma Mejía Vélez, Fernando Morán, Raúl Morodo, Marcelino Oreja Aguirre, Luis Guillermo Perinat, Manuel Ponga Santamarta, Ana María Ruiz-Tagle and Nicolás Sartorius, gathered in Oviedo under the presidency of Gustavo Suárez Pertierra and with Teodoro López-Cuesta acting as secretary, have agreed by majority to grant the 1994 Prince of Asturias Award for International Co-operation to the Prime Minister of Israel, Yitzhak Rabin, and the President of the Palestine National Authority, Yasser Arafat, for their decisive efforts aimed at creating the conditions for peace in their region, following the process initiated at the Madrid Conference in October 1991, which should lead to the definitive pacification of the Middle East.
