The Jury for the Prince of Asturias Award for Concord 2000, convened in Oviedo, comprising José Ramón Álvarez Rendueles, Paz Fernández Felgueroso, Juan Vázquez, Juan Abelló Gallo, Adolfo Barthe Aza, Claudio Boada, Miguel Blesa de la Parra, Jaime Carvajal y Urquijo, marquis of Isasi, José Celma Prieto, Ramón Colao Caicoya, Juan Manuel Desvalls, marquis of Poal, Martín Eyries Valmaseda, José Ramón Fernández Cuevas, Pedro Ferreras, Martín González del Valle, baron of Grado, Juan de Herrera, marquis of Viesca de la Sierra, Guillermo Luca de Tena, Sergio Marqués, Elías Masaveu, José Luis Méndez López, Matías Rodríguez Inciarte, Luis Manuel Tejuca, Santiago de Ybarra, chaired by Vicente Álvarez Areces y with Pedro de Silva Cienfuegos-Jovellanos acting as secretary has unanimously decided to grant the Prince of Asturias Award for Concord 2000 to the Real Academia Española and the Asociación de las Academias de la Lengua Española (Royal Spanish Academy and the Association of Academies of the Spanish Language), in recognition of their unflagging, tenacious efforts to work together for the Spanish language as a vehicle for understanding and concord amongst peoples, thereby safeguarding and contributing to the greatness of a valuable world heritage.
