The Way of Saint James Prince of Asturias Award for Concord 2004

At its meeting in Oviedo, the Jury for the 2004 Prince of Asturias Award for Concord, made up of D.ª Paz Fernández Felgueroso, mayoress of Gijón, José Ramón Álvarez Rendueles, president of the Fundación Príncipe de Asturias, Juan Abelló, Gonzalo Anes, José María Arias Mosquera, Adolfo Barthe Aza, Antonio Basagoiti García-Tuñón, Claudio Boada, José Celma Prieto, Ramón Colao Caicoya, José Cosmen Adelaida, Juan Manuel Desvalls, José Esteve, Felipe Fernández, José Ramón Fernández Cuevas, Francisco de la Fuente Sánchez, Juan Ramón García Secades, Francisco Goicoerrotea Sarri, Martín González del Valle, José Luis Méndez López, Fernando Menéndez Rexach, Carlos Pérez de Bricio, Matías Rodríguez Inciarte, José Antonio Rumeu, Antonio Suárez Gutiérrez, Luis Manuel Tejuca, Antonio Trevín Lombán, José María Villanueva, Santiago de Ybarra, Santiago Zaldumbide Viadas, chaired by D. Vicente Álvarez Areces, president of the Principality of Asturias, with D. Pedro de Silav as secretary, has decided to bestow the 2004 Prince of Asturias Award for Concord on the Way of Saint James, a place of pilgrimage and a meeting point for people of different nations that has become a symbol of fraternity over the centuries and a corner stone of an awareness of Europe.
