Statement by Linda Watkins, on being bestowed with the 2010 Prince of Asturias Award for Scientific and Technical Research:
“I am indeed deeply honored to be selected for this prize, with my co-recipients Dr. Julius and Dr. Minke. There are numerous people who have importantly contributed to the understanding and recognition of glia as powerful modulators of pain and opioid actions, both within my laboratory and beyond. I look forward to accepting this award as representing all of the research that has led to glia becoming an important target for improving human pain control and improving the clinical efficacy of opioids”.
