At its meeting in Oviedo, the Jury for the 2010 Prince of Asturias Award for Sports, made up of Mr. José María Abad Casamayor, Mr. Alejandro Blanco Bravo, Mr. Miguel Carballeda Piñeiro, Mr. Josep María Casanovas i Punti, Mr. Agustín Castellote Granados, Mr. Enrique Castro González, Mr. Misael Fernández Porrón, Mr. Joaquín Folch-Rusiñol Corachán, Mr. Julián García Candau, Mr. César González Antón, Mr. Ignacio Gómez-Acebo del Solar, Ms. María del Carmen Izquierdo Vergara, Mr. Jaime Lissavetzky Díez, Mr. José Antonio Luque Cubillo, Mr. Javier Muñoz Gallego, Mr. Santiago Nolla Zayas, Mr. Josep Pedrerol Alonso, Mr. José Ramón Pindado Andrés, Mr. Matías Prats Luque, Mr. Julián Redondo Pérez, Mr. Ángel Rodríguez Berriguete, Ms. María Rodríguez Escario, Ms. Arancha Sánchez-Vicario Santacana, Mr. José Javier Santos Rubio, Mr. Josep Lluis Vilaseca i Guasch, Ms. Theresa Zabell Lucas, chaired by Mr. Manuel Estiarte Duocastella, and with Mr. Ignacio Martínez García actino as secretary, has unanimously decided to confer the 2010 Prince of Asturias Award for Sports on the Spanish Football Squad, winner of the UEFA Euro 2008 Cup and the 2010 World Cup.

The merit of the Squad has been that of creating a playing technique and style that are admired worldwide and which are put forward in many countries as guidelines to follow.

From the social point of view, they have managed to make the whole country vibrate with their triumphs and embrace them as their own.

The players and the technical staff have provided an example of the drive to excel, team spirit, modesty and commitment to sporting values. Success on the football field has, on this occasion, had the maximum impact at a popular, social and sporting level, both in Spain and abroad.
