Riccardo Muti Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts 2011
“In Chicago, where I am working with my orchestra, I have received the news that I have been bestowed with the 2011 Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts. I feel particularly honoured to receive this prestigious award related to the world of the Arts and even happier because Spain, its public and its culture have been very important in my artistic life. I thank His Royal Highness Prince Felipe and the Jury for this great honour”.

“I have followed his career ever since we studied together with Franco Ferrara. He represents the European tradition of the Italian conductor who masters all kinds of repertoires, lyrical as well as symphonic, Italian as well as Central European. Maestro Muti has had a magnificent career in both Europe and the United States. For me, he is one of the great directors of the 20th century”.
