Statement by Martin Schulz, president of the European Parliament, on the conferral of the 2013 Prince of Asturias Award for International Coopeartion:

"I'm very glad that the prestigious Prize of the Fundación Principe de Asturias acknowledges this year the tireless work and the achievements of Max-Planck-Gesellschaft. I'm particularly satisfied that this award recognises their international and European commitment. The Max Planck Society shows that, in many fields, including scientific research, together, we are stronger than alone. When, as Europeans, we share our resources, our knowledge and our values, we can reach great goals, both for ourselves and for the rest of the world"
