Princess of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities 2021

In the course of its online meeting, the Jury for the 2021 Princess of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities, composed of Luis María Anson Oliart, Rosa María Calaf Solé, Irene Cano Piquero, Gabriela Cañas Pita de la Vega, Emilio Casares Rodicio, Aurora Egido Martínez, Miguel Falomir Faus, Elsa González Díaz de Ponga, Álex Grijelmo García, Alma Guillermoprieto, José Guirao Cabrera, Miguel Ángel Liso Tejada, Emilio Lledó Íñigo, Helena López de Hierro d’Aubarède, Emilio Morenatti Fernández, Enrique Pascual Pons, José Manuel Pérez Tornero, Ana Santos Aramburo and María Sefidari Huici, chaired by Víctor García de la Concha and with Alberto Anaut González acting as secretary, has decided to confer the 2021 Princess of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities on Gloria Steinem.

An essential iconic reference within the women’s rights movement, since the sixties Gloria Steinem’s activism –marked by independence and rigour– has been a driving force for one of the major revolutions of contemporary society.

Over six decades, her firm, boundless commitment to feminism, her deep reflection and her willingness to include all voices have promoted equality as one of humanity’s fundamental values.
