Statement by Jens Juul Holst following the conferral of the 2024 Princess of Asturias Award for Technical And Scientific Research.

“I am extremely grateful for having been awarded the 2024 Princess of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research. It represents a recognition of the importance of the discovery and further development of the glucagon-like peptide-1 peptide for therapies of obesity and diabetes, and it really has been an amazing journey from the isolation of a peptide from the gut with an ability to stimulate insulin secretion to days overwhelming results where unprecedented efficacy in the treatment of obesity and diabetes is accompanied by highly significant improvements of cardiovascular, renal and cerebral health and survival.”
