At its meeting in Oviedo, the Jury for the 2024 Princess of Asturias Award for Literature, composed of Xosé Ballesteros Rey, Xuan Bello Fernández, Blanca Berasátegui Garaizábal, Jesús García Calero, Pablo Gil Cuevas, Francisco Goyanes Martínez, Lola Larumbe Doral, Aurora Luque Ortiz, Inés Martín Rodrigo, Juan Mayorga Ruano, Carmen Millán Grajales, José María Pou Serra, Ana Santos Aramburo, Irene Vallejo Moreu, Juan Villoro Ruiz, chaired by Santiago Muñoz Machado and with Fernando Rodríguez Lafuente acting as secretary, has decided to confer the 2024 Princess of Asturias Award for Literature on Romanian poet Ana Blandiana.

Ana Blandiana is heir to the most brilliant European traditions, as well as a radically unique creator. Combining transparency and complexity, her writing raises fundamental questions about the existence of human beings, both alone and within society, in the face of nature and of history. Through her indomitable poetry, she has shown an extraordinary capacity for defying censorship.
