Juan Mayorga 2022 Princess of Asturias Award for Literature

Statement by Juan Mayorga, following the granting of the 2022 Princess of Asturias Award for Literature.

“I feel enormously grateful to the Princess of Asturias Award for Literature Jury for having granted me an honour that so exceeds my merits. I believe that I have not been granted the award for what I have done, but for what I am expected to do, and I promise to work to be worthy of it someday. To that end, I will continue to seek out those forces that the Jury has chosen to see in my theatre: action, emotion, poetry and thought”.
