Giftedwith an extraordinary ability to play a wide variety of characters, she is considered one of the best contemporary actresses, with a career spanningmore than forty years. She won her first Oscar for Kramer vs. Kramer (1979). At the beginning of the eighties, she starred in her first leading roles: The French Lieutenant’s Woman (1981), Sophie’s Choice (1982), withwhich she won her secondOscar, Out of Africa (1985) and Evil Angels (1988). Othermemorable films of hers include The Bridges of Madison County (1995), The Hours (2002), The Devil Wears Prada (2006), MammaMia! (2008), The Iron Lady (2011), which earned her her thirdOscar, The Post (2017), LittleWomen (2019) and Don’t Look Up (2021). She has also won eight GoldenGlobes, two BAFTAs and three Emmys. Dotada de una extraordinaria capacidad para interpretar una gran variedad de personajes, tras más de cuarenta años de carrera está considerada como una de las mejores actrices contemporáneas. Ganó su primer Oscar por Kramer vs. Kramer (1979). Al inicio de los ochenta tuvo sus primeros papeles como protagonista: La mujer del teniente francés (1981), La decisión de Sophie (1982), con la que obtuvo su segundo Oscar, Memorias de África (1985) y Un grito en la oscuridad (1988). Otras películas memorables son: Los puentes de Madison (1995), Las horas (2002), El diablo se viste de Prada (2006), Mamma mia! (2008), La dama de hierro (2011), que le valió su tercer Oscar, Los archivos del Pentágono (2017), Mujercitas (2019) y No mires arriba (2021). Ha obtenido además ocho Globos de Oro, dos BAFTA y tres Emmy. Filántropa y comprometida con la defensa de los derechos de la mujer y de la igualdad de género, es miembro de la Academia Estadounidense de las Artes y las Letras y Comendadora de la Orden de las Artes y las Letras de Francia y ha recibido, entre otros, los premios César, Donostia, Oso de Oro, Stanley Kubrick Britannia y Cecil B.
