(…) His academic work, which focusses on relevant figures of the Renaissance, highlights the need to recover the richness of humanism for the up-and- coming generations.” Nuccio Ordine (Diamante, Italia, 18 de julio de 1958 - Cosenza, Italia, 10 de junio de 2023) se licenció en Literatura Moderna por la Universidad de Calabria, donde se doctoró en Ciencias Literarias. Profesor en dicha universidad y en otras europeas y estadounidenses, fue reconocido como uno de los mayores conocedores de la literatura renacentista, en concreto de la figura del humanista napolitano Giordano Bruno. En sus obras La utilidad de lo inútil y Clásicos para la vida reflexionó sobre la situación de las humanidades, reivindicándolas como necesarias en la formación cívica del ser humano y en la creación del pensamiento crítico. Abogó, además, por inculcar en los alumnos el placer por el conocimiento y la curiosidad por saber. Miembro honorario y fundador de distintas academias, presidió el Centro Internazionale di Studi Telesiani, Bruniani e Campanelliani y formó parte del consejo ejecutivo del Instituto Italiano de Estudios Filosóficos. Colaborador habitual del Corriere della Sera , fue doctor honoris causa por seis universidades y Gran Oficial de la Orden al Mérito de la República Italiana, Caballero y Comandante de la Orden de las Palmas Académicas y Caballero de la Orden de la Legión de Honor de Francia. Recibió, entre otros, los premios Siracusa Filosofía, Il Sogno di Piero, el Liberpress de Literatura y el Internacional de Humanismo y Renacimiento del Museo Liceo Egipcio. Nuccio Ordine (Diamante, Italy, 18th July 1958 – Cosenza, Italy, 10th June 2023) graduated inModern Literature from the University of Calabria, where he also earned a PhD in Literary Sciences. He lectured at said university and at other European and American universities, being recognized as one of the leading experts on Renaissance literature, specifically the figure of the Neapolitan humanist Giordano Bruno. In his works The Usefulness of the Useless and Clàssics per a la vida [ Classics for Life ], he reflected on the situation of the humanities, maintaining that they were necessary in the civic formation of human beings and in the creation of critical thinking. He also advocated instilling in students the pleasure of knowledge and curiosity to know. Honorary member and founder of different academies, he chaired the Centro Internazionale di Studi Telesiani, Bruniani e Campanelliani and sat on the executive council of the Italian Institute of Philosophical Studies. A regular contributor to Corriere della Sera , he held honorary degrees from six universities and was Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, Knight and Commander of France’s Order of Academic Palms and Knight of the Order of its Legion of Honour. Among other distinctions, he received the Siracusa Philosophy Award, the Il Sogno di Piero Award, the Liberpress Prize for Literature and the International Prize for Humanism and Renaissance from the Egyptian LyceumMuseum.
