GALARDONADOS www.fpa.es Fragmento del acta del jurado Excerpt from the Minutes of the Jury Trayectoria Background «La obra de Hélène Carrère d'Encausse constituye probablemente la aportación más sustantiva que se haya hecho en las últimas décadas al conocimiento de la Unión Soviética y Rusia, uno de los temas esenciales para la comprensión del mundo contemporáneo». “The work of Hélène Carrère d’Encausse probably constitutes the most substantive contribution made in recent decades to our knowledge of the Soviet Union and Russia, an essential subject matter for understanding the contemporary world.” HÉLÈNE CARRÈRE D'ENCAUSSE Nacida Hélène Zourabichvili (París, Francia, 6 de julio de 1929 - 5 de agosto de 2023), Carrère d'Encausse tras su matrimonio, creció en una familia emigrante de origen eslavo de la que aprendió la historia, literatura y lengua rusas. Licenciada en Ciencias Políticas en el Instituto de Estudios Políticos de París, donde dirigió el departamento de Estudios Soviéticos del Centro de Investigaciones Internacionales y desarrolló gran parte de su carrera, se doctoró en Historia y en Letras y Humanidades. Fue diputada del Parlamento Europeo, en él que ocupó distintos cargos, y miembro electo de la Academia Francesa, donde llegó a ser secretario perpetuo. Especialista en la extinta Unión Soviética y Rusia y también en Asia central, en L'Empire éclaté (1978), pronosticó con más de una década de antelación la disolución de la URSS. Escribió, entre otras obras destacadas, Rusia inacabada y Seis años que cambiaron el mundo 1985-1991 , además de las biografías de Nicolás II, Lenin, Catalina la Grande y Alejandro II. Fue doctora honoris causa por diversas universidades y perteneció asimismo a diversas academias. Comendador de la Orden de las Artes y las Letras y Gran Cruz de la Legión de Honor francesa, recibió las órdenes rusas de Honor y de la Amistad de los Pueblos y la Gran Medalla de Oro de la Sociedad de Fomento del Progreso. Born Hélène Zourabichvili (Paris, France, 6th July 1929 – 5th August 2023), Carrère d’Encausse following her marriage, she grew up in an emigrant family of Slavic origin from which she learned Russian history, literature and language. She graduated in Political Science from the Paris Institute of Political Studies, where she later headed the International Research Centre’s Department of Soviet Studies and spent a major part of her career, earning PhDs in History and in Letters and Humanities. She was a member of the European Parliament, where she held various offices, and was an elected member of the French Academy, where she served as perpetual secretary. A specialist in the extinct Soviet Union and Russia and in Central Asia, in L’Empire éclaté (1978) she predicted the dissolution of the USSR more than a decade in advance. Among other noteworthy works, she wrote La Russie inachevée and S ix années qui ont changé le monde 1985-1991 , in addition to the biographies of Nicholas II, Lenin, Catherine the Great and Alexander II. She held honorary degrees from various universities and also belonged to various academies. Commander of France’s Order of Arts and Letters and Grand Cross of its Legion of Honour, she received the Russian Orders of Honour and Friendship of Peoples and the Great Gold Medal of the Society for the Promotion of Progress.
