MUSIC DEPARTMENT 115th Anniversary of the Gijón Philharmonic Society In June, the Choir participated in the premiere of the work Cantarinos de mi Asturias , by the Asturian composer Fernando Menéndez Viejo, accompanied by the Oviedo Filarmonía Orchestra conducted by Maestro Rubén Díaz. Awards Week Within the framework of Awards Week, the Choir participated in the events “Murakami on the Shore” and “Naoko's Funeral”, both linked to writer Haruki Murakami, on 11th and 14th October at the Tabacalera Building in Gijón and the La Vega Arms Factory in Oviedo, respectively. Their Majesties The King and Queen, accompanied by Their Royal Highnesses The Princess of Asturias and Infanta Sofía of Spain, presided over the 31st Princess of Asturias Awards Concert, titled “A Certain Taste of Peace”, organized by the Princess of Asturias Foundation in collaboration with the Cajastur Foundation. The concert took place on 19th October at the Prince Felipe Auditorium in Oviedo. The Foundation Choir performed alongside the Principality of Asturias Symphony Orchestra (OSPA) and soloists VerityWingate (soprano) and Paul Grant (baritone) under the baton of Martyn Brabbins in a programme comprising Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis and Dona nobis pacem , both by Ralph VaughanWilliams. Semana de los Premios En el marco de la Semana de los Premios, el Coro intervino en los actos «Murakami en la orilla» y «El funeral de Naoko», ambos vinculados al escritor Haruki Murakami, los días 11 y 14 de octubre en el Edificio de Tabacalera en Gijón y en la Fábrica de Armas de La Vega en Oviedo, respectivamente. Sus Majestades los Reyes, acompañados por Sus Altezas Reales la Princesa de Asturias y la Infanta doña Sofía, presidieron el XXXI Concierto Premios Princesa de Asturias «Con cierto sabor a paz», organizado por la Fundación Princesa de Asturias, en colaboración con la Fundación Cajastur, que tuvo lugar el 19 de octubre en el Auditorio Príncipe Felipe, en Oviedo.
