Spanish Federation of Food Banks

Prince of Asturias Award for Concord 2012

At its meeting in Oviedo, the Jury for the 2012 Prince of Asturias Award for Concord, made up of Mr Matías Rodríguez Inciarte, Mr Ramón Aguirre Rodríguez, Fernando de Almansa Moreno-Barreda, Viscount of Castillo de Almansa, Mr José Ramón Álvarez Rendueles, Mr José María Arias Mosquera, Ms Rosa Isabel Aza Conejo, Mr Adolfo Barthe Aza, Mr Antonio Basagoiti García-Tuñón, Mr Francisco Daurella Franco, Juan Manuel Desvalls Maristany, Marquess of El Poal, Mr Felipe Fernández Fernández, Mr Pedro Luis Fernández Pérez, Mr José Antonio Fernández Rivero, Mr Francisco de la Fuente Sánchez, Mr José Luis García Palacios, Mr Agustín Iglesias Caunedo, Alicia Koplowitz Romero de Juséu, Marchioness of Bellavista, Ms Teresa Mallada de Castro, Ms Carmen Moriyón Entrialgo, Ms María del Pino Calvo-Sotelo, Mr Rodrigo de Rato Figaredo, Mr Ángel Ron Güimil, Mr Pedro Sanjurjo González, Mr Ramón Sotomayor Jáuregui, Mr Antonio Ramón Suárez Gutiérrez, Mr José B. Terceiro Lomba, Mr José María Villanueva Fernández , Juan-Miguel Villar Mir, Marquess of Villar Mir, Santiago de Ybarra y Churruca, Count of El Abra, Mr Santiago Zaldumbide Viadas, chaired by Mr Javier Fernández Fernández and with Mr Pedro de Silva Cienfuegos-Jovellanos acting as secretary, has decided to bestow the 2012 Prince of Asturias Award for Concord on the Spanish Federation of Food Banks as an exponent of an international effort of solidarity to alleviate some of the most pressing needs of the population, currently made worse by the economic crisis. The food donors and volunteers and organisations for which they act as a channel constitute crucial, generous examples of this selfless effort for others.
