FRANCIS FORD COPPOLA
Francis Ford Coppola
(Detroit, EE.UU., 1939), se
formó en Arte Dramático en la Universidad Hofstra y
en la Escuela de Cine de la Universidad de California
en Los Ángeles donde obtuvo su posgrado en Bellas
Artes. Ha dirigido más de 30 filmes, escrito el guión
de 27 y producido 74. Ganó su primer Oscar al mejor
guion original por
Patton
(1970). La película
que lo encumbró fue
El Padrino
(1972), con la que
obtuvo tres Oscar. Dos años después, rodó
El Padrino II
,
por la que recibió seis Oscar. Ese mismo año estrenó
La conversación
(1974). La década de los 70 culminó
para él con el estreno de
Apocalypse Now
(1979).
En los 80 dirigió
Rebeldes
(1983),
La ley de la calle
(1983) y
Peggy Sue se casó
(1986). En los 90 estrenó
El Padrino III
(1990) y
Drácula de Bram Stoker
(1992),
por la que consiguió tres Oscar. En 2001 presentó en
el Festival de Cannes
Apocalypse Now Redux
, un nuevo
montaje con 49 minutos de metraje inédito. Entre
sus últimas cintas como director se encuentran
El hombre sin edad
(2007) y
Twixt
(2011). Además de
los Oscar, ha obtenido varios Globos de Oro, la Palma
de Oro de Cannes y premios BAFTA, César, David de
Donatello y el León de Oro. En 2013 obtuvo
el Praemium Imperiale.
Francis Ford Coppola
(Detroit, USA, 1939) majored
in Theater Arts at Hofstra College (New York) and
studied film at the UCLA Film School, where he earned
a Master in Fine Arts Degree. His work comprises more
than 30 films as director, 27 as screenwriter and
74 as producer. He won his first Oscar in 1970 for Best
Original Screenplay for
Patton
. However, the film that
really made him a household name was
The Godfather
(1972), as well as winning three Oscars. Two years later,
he shot the sequel,
The Godfather: Part II
, for which
he received six Oscars. That same year he released
The Conversation
(1974). Coppola ended the 1970s with
the release of
Apocalypse Now
(1979). In the 80s,
he directed
The Outsiders
(1983),
Rumble Fish
(1983)
and
Peggy Sue Got Married
(1986). In the 90s, he released
The Godfather: Part III
(1990) and
Bram Stoker’s Dracula
(1992), for which he won three Oscars. At the Cannes
Festival in 2001, he presented
Apocalypse Now Redux
,
a new director’s cut with 49 minutes of unseen footage.
His recent films as a director include
Youth Without
Youth
(2007) and
Twixt
(2011). Besides the Oscars,
he has won Golden Globes, the Palme d’Or at Cannes,
BAFTA Awards (UK), a César Award, David di Donatello
Awards and the Golden Lion Award. In 2013, he was
bestowed with the Praemium Imperiale.
