de estrategias en los ámbitos de la educación, la salud,
las microfinanzas y el empleo”.

Esther Duflo
(París, 1972) estudió Historia y
Ciencias Económicas en la Escuela Normal Superior
de la capital francesa. En 1995 obtuvo el diploma
de estudios avanzados por DELTA, actual Escuela
de Económicas de París. Completó su formación
con un doctorado en el Instituto Tecnológico de
Massachusetts (MIT). Fundó en 2003, junto a Abhijit
Banerjee y a Sendhil Maullainathan, el Laboratorio
de Acción contra la Pobreza “Abdul Latif Jameel” del
MIT, que actualmente dirige, y que ha formado a más
de 4.000 personas y desarrollado 376 evaluaciones
en 52 países. Plasmó sus análisis en el libro
Poor
Economics. A Radical Rethinking of the Way to Fight
Global Poverty
(2011). Esta obra fue galardonada con
el Financial Times and Goldman Sachs Business Book
of the Year Award (2011). Duflo es editora fundadora
de
American Economic Journal: Applied Economics
,
directora del Programa de Desarrollo del Centro
de Investigación en Economía y Política e
investigadora asociada de la Oficina Nacional
de Investigación Económica. En 2013 Barack Obama
la designó miembro del Consejo de Desarrollo
Global del Presidente. Doctora
honoris causa
por
las universidades de Yale, Libre de Lovaina y la
London Business School, es miembro de la Academia

Esther Duflo
(Paris, 1972) studied History and
Economics at the École Normale Supèrieure in the
French capital. In 1995, she obtained a Masters in
Economics from DELTA, nowadays the Paris School of
Economics. She completed her education obtaining a
PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
(MIT). In 2003, she co-founded the Abdul Latif Jameel
Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) at MIT together with her
partner Abhijit Banerjee and Sendhil Maullainathan.
This institution, which she heads, has trained more
than 4,000 people and has conducted 376 evaluations
in 52 countries. Duflo set out their analyses in the
book
Poor Economics. A Radical Rethinking of the Way
to Fight Global Poverty
(2011), a book which won
the Financial Times and Goldman Sachs Business
Book of the Year Award (2011). Duflo is founding
editor of the
American Economic Journal: Applied
Economics,
Director of the Development Program
at the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR)
and research associate at the National Bureau of
Economic Research (NBER). In 2013, Barack Obama
appointed her a member of the President’s Global
Development Council. Holder of honorary degrees
from Yale University, the Université Libre de Louvain
and the London Business School, she is member of the
American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
