Marc Gasol
(Barcelona, 1985) comenzó su trayectoria
en las canteras del Básquet Llor de Sant Boi y F.C.
Barcelona. Internacional con España desde cadete,
acompañó a su hermano a Memphis, completando su
formación en el Laussanne Collegiate School. En 2003
regresó al Barça, con el que debutó en la ACB y logró
la Liga y la Supercopa de 2004. En 2006 debutó con la
selección absoluta en el Mundial de Japón, con la que
logró el oro. Cedido al Akasvayu Girona en 2007 ganó
la FIBA EuroCup y la temporada siguiente fue el mejor
jugador de la ACB, dando el salto a la NBA para jugar,
tras la plata olímpica en los Juegos de Pekín, en los
Grizzlies en 2008-2009. Tras proclamarse campeón de
Europa con España en Polonia, se convirtió en titular
indiscutible en Memphis y disputó su primer Partido
de las Estrellas en 2010. Plata olímpica en Londres,
en la campaña 2012-2013 fue designado “mejor
defensor” y disputó la final de la Conferencia Oeste.
En 2014 disputó el Mundial con España. En 2015
fue seleccionado para su segundo All Star Game y se
convirtió en el primer español incluido en el quinteto
ideal de la NBA como mejor pívot de la competición.
Marc Gasol
(Barcelona, 1985) began his career in the
Básquet Llor de Sant Boi and FC Barcelona youth teams.
An international player for Spain since his early teens,
he accompanied his brother to Memphis, completing
his education at the Laussanne Collegiate School. In
2003, he returned to Barça, debutting in the Spanish
ACB League, and winning the league title and Supercup
in 2004. He debuted with the national team at the 2006
World Cup in Japan, winning a gold medal. On loan to
Akasvayu Girona in 2007, he won the FIBA EuroCup
and the following season was voted ACB Most Valuable
Player. After winning an Olympic silver medal in Beijing,
he joined the Grizzlies in 2008-2009. After winning a
gold medal at the FIBA EuroBasket Championship in
Poland, he became a permanent fixture in Memphis
and played his first All-Star Game in 2010. Olympic
silver medal winner in London, he was named “top
defensive player of the year” and played in the Western
Conference final. He played in the 2014 FIBA World Cup
and his second All Star Game in 2015, becoming the first
Spanish player included in the ideal NBA team as the
best center in the competition.
